Monthly breast exams are an important part of detecting breast cancer early, when it’s most likely to be cured. But when the first of the month comes along, many of us forget this important ritual. We’ve put together some methods that will help you remember:
- Team up with a friend and make an agreement to remind each other to do your breast exam. The chances that both of you will forget are less than if it’s just you alone.
- Use technology to your advantage. Set a reminder on your cell phone or your email. That way your reminder will pop up automatically.
- The best time to conduct your breast exam is a few days after your period ends. Put a Post-it Note at the bottom of your tampon or pad box. That way, when you run out of tampons, mostly likely at the end of your period, you’ll remember your exam.
- Finally, reward yourself for remembering your breast exam. Indulge in some chocolate or a magazine. This may help you to remember next time around.
